A New Beginning

Hello, and welcome to my new, inaugural blog post. I originally started this blog in early March 2020 while at the Annual Writer’s Conference in San Antonio, TX. After attending some thought provoking sessions on the craft and business of wrting, I was feeling especially inspired. So I started this blog one night from my hotel room with hope and stars in my eyes.

Approximately 1 week later, the COVID-19 global pandemic was announced. And the world descended into a panic and darkness that dashed away many of my hopes and dreams for a future career in writing. I published 2 articles on Medium and then focused on keeping my current day job as well as survival. As the death toll in my family and friends circle began to rise, it was a struggle to be in even a baseline state. Many of us in my industry were furloughed and laid off due to the uncertainty. I was lucky to stay employed.

Then something unpredictable happened and my industry started to do very well, so well, in fact, that many companies like the one I work for, had their best year ever.

During a global pandemic.

While people all over the world were suffering and struggling just to live day by day.

I find myself now, more than a year after the inception of this blog, suddenly feeling optimistic about a future where we can co-exist with COVID-19 and not live in constant fear of death. It may not be tomorrow, but I see a light at the end of this tunnel. And I turn back inward to the journey I so wanted to start a year ago. Stumbling, I’m picking back up the pieces and carving out a new path.

So welcome to this blog! In it, I will be cataloging both the highs and lows of my journey to leave my current career to pursue a multi-faceted career in writing. I’ll share the rejections, the wins, and the lessons learned along the way.

Thank you for taking a moment to stop by!
